All industrial and manufacturing facilities need a safety manager. Not to be confused with quality assurance, a safety manager is responsible for directing a company’s health and safety activities and seeing that the safety and health practices of a company meet all regulatory requirements. These may be a CSP, CMSP, CIH, or similar certification program pertaining to the industry.

Experience is just as important as education for safety manager jobs, and those looking to move up into such a position need to have at least five to 10 years in safety and health inspection for a manufacturing or industrial facility. Knowledge of MSHA, OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, DOT, and environmental regulations should have been acquired on the job during this time. Additionally, those in manufacturing or industrial safety aspiring to management should have solid communications and computer skills, as well.
