General and sales automotive manager jobs require experience in the industry – about five to eight years – and some education. For general management, background as a mechanic or in another technical role is preferred. Candidates for automotive sales management should already have experience in sales or finance. Some college, computer skills, supervisory experience, and problem-solving skills are necessary. Both types of automotive manager jobs require a clean driving record.
